Tarot.com Takes Online Posts to a Karmic Level

“Wah, wah, wah” Blogs these days are filled with people venting frustrations, dislikes or grandstanding their expertise in seemingly obscure talents. It’s almost less about what is actually said then it is how cool you say it. So why so negative? How come so much posturing?

Everyone needs an outlet. Along came the web community and it’s seemingly anonymous forum for discussing any topic under the sun. Finally… you can act out or become the person you wish you were bold enough to be. After all…it’s just text. You can delete it right?

WRONG! Your words carry karmic weight. When you put that energy out in to the world, whether in the heat of the moment, in jest or even calculated…you are putting one more notch in your karmic belt. Tarot.com wants to offset the amount of negative comments and posturing posts on the web by creating a wave of Positive Karmic posts.

Imagine blogging good karma into existence – the team at Tarot.com has issued this challenge to its users. With the availability of so many blogs, forums and social networks, Tarot.com found that too many self-published sites were transmitting more negativity than good energy, so they decided to try something that had never been done: spread good karma on the internet using community forums.

Internet search engine and web blog index Technorati states that 184 million users worldwide have started blogs, attracting universal audiences of 346 million people a day. In addition, 77% of those who use the Internet regularly view blogs. While many blogs can be entertaining and informative, just as many are jaded and deal in a negative outlook. The creative team at Tarot.com decided to battle what they viewed as the onslaught of cynicism in the blogosphere, and started by contemplating the ways in which they use community sites.

"I started thinking about how powerful micro-blogging and forum communities could become if we could train people’s behaviors – if we could get them thinking of it as a way to manifest good energy into the world," says Tarot.com General Manager Jessica Abel. "Anyone can pontificate and theorize. Lets get real and admit… we all got problems. What makes you unique is your ability to overcome them and find the blessings hidden in plain sight.”

And that's how the Tarot.com Community Karma Forums Challenge started, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. To engage and empower new users as well as current members, the two-week campaign asks the growing Tarot.com community of over 8.5 million members to use the forum to post a message about what they are thankful for, phrasing messages in a constructive and optimistic light. And Tarot is asking its members to spread the word!

To reinforce Tarot.com’s commitment to this Endeavour Tarot.com will donate $ .25 per unique “Community Challenge Forum” post to the Meals on Wheels program – to ensure that the elderly and homebound of America will be able to share in the bounty of the holiday.

"We wanted to show users that as they participate in the community aspects of the internet, they can influence the overall climate of our offline community," says Abel. "When someone reads about another person’s victory or is empathic to someone’s cause, they are inspired and given a karmic boost of hope. That small happy thought or comment can start a chain reaction of positive thoughts and manifest in the power to change your own destiny. It’s your Karma. Why not make it work for you?"

Tarot.com's Karma Challenge runs from November 10 through November 27, with a goal of getting 10,000 people to post their personal messages of gratitude for a total donation of $2,500.

Follow the Challenge on our Facebook and MySpace/horoscopes pages all month long.
