Walnut Date Tart With Hot Buttered Rum Sauce
Tart Dough

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup Dutch process cocoa
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Preparation:
Blend ingredients to make a soft dough. Pat into a 9 or 10 inch tart or pie pan. Prick crust well with fork. Bake in 350 degrees oven for 15-20 minutes.

Pie Filling

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 ounce melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups walnuts
  • 1/2 cup chopped dates

Preparation:
Boil sugar and water until it bubbles and changes color. Scald cream in separate pan. Add the hot cream to the hot sugar mixture. Let new mixture boil a few minutes together. Wait until cool. Beat egg and yolk together and add to the cooled cream. Add melted butter and vanilla. Pour walnuts and dates into the tart. Pour mixture over that. Bake tart at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

Remove from the oven and cool for 30 minutes. Drizzle Hot Buttered Rum Sauce over the tart and let sit for 15 minutes.

Hot Buttered Rum Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 3 tablespoons Rum

Preparation:
In a heavy saucepan, melt butter over medium heat and add sugar. Bring mixture to low boil, stirring constantly with a whisk; add in cream and rum. Simmer, stirring occasionally until thickened slightly. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 5 minutes.
